Glycemic Index
One way to watch your weight is to learn a little about how fast carbs turn to sugar in our systems. The Glycemic Index is a ranking device devloped by scientists that measures food cotnaining carbs according to how quickly the carbs turn to glucose in our blood. If we eat accordingly, we can effortlessly institute a method of lifelong weight control.
A carb on the Glycemic Index is ranked relative to pure glucose, which is given the rating 100. A carb with a low glycemic rating will cause a less dramatic rise and fall in blood sugar than a carb with a high glycemic rating. This is good, because steady blood sugar, among other things, is the perfect way to get our bodies functioning efficiently and to also regulate our appetites. Refer to the GI at GlycemicIndex.com to see the relative speed of what you eat. Just type in your favorite foods and see where they stand, and adjust diet accordingly. For more on how sugar affects our systems, our looks and our long term health, read the chapter titled, The Drug Test in The High School Reunion Diet.
To Your Health
We’ve heard that red wine can help increase heart health. Is it true?
According to studies, absolutely. There are a few great things in wine that will improve health if you keep your head and always drink moderately. One of them is resveratrol.
“Resveratrol might be a key ingredient in red wine that helps prevent damage to blood vessels, reduces “bad” cholesterol and prevents blood clots.” – MayoClinic
There’s resveratrol in white wine also, just not quite as much. Either way, wine is a healthful drink and improves your enjoyment of food if limited to one to two glasses.
