Dr. Colbert’s Trip to Haiti
Shortly after the earthquake, Dr. Colbert (an internist as well as a dermatologist, with a fellowship in wound healing and ER experience) visited Haiti to help treat the countless victims of the disaster. His accounting of his trip , and his assessment of what medical follow-up would be needed in the future, was published in The New York Post on February 7. The article drew attention from many prominent people anxious to continue helping the Haitians recover from the devastation, and led to the establishment of Dr. Colbert’s not-for-profit organization, NYDG Foundation. A benefit hosted by Dr. Colbert and several celebrities will be held in April. Link here to The Huffington Post to read how you can help the Haitian earthquake victims, and for details about the event.

Michelle Obama in Mexico
An article on the New York Times website recently mentioned Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity plan. The First Lady recently met with Margarita Zavala (Mexico’s first lady) to discuss the matter.
Not only did they chat about ways to prevent obesity, but they also discussed the growing Diabetes epidemic.
In 2007 23.6 million children and adults in the United States—7.8% of the population—have diabetes. Good to hear there’s finally an international dialogue on the issue!
Do U Know Your BMI?
Body Mass Index–otherwise known as your BMI–is a measure of your body fat based on a calculation of of your height and current weight. Though the classifications have changed slightly as of late (making it harder to ignore the fact you’re officially over normal weight) the general interpretation is:
Normal Weight Range: 18.5 to 25
According to this measure, Americans weigh in as the heaviest people on earth, with an estimated 66 million people (!) defined as overweight, and 60 million more (!) defined as obese. Yes, it is shocking. And clearly, there is something extremely suspect about our national diet. The High School Reunion Diet offers an easy to follow and swallow alternative based more on the far healthier ‘international” diet. It’s achieved through tiny changes in daily lifestyle that quickly add up to a sea change in your health and the health of our nation. Even if you aren’t designated as ‘overweight’ on the BMI scale, you will still benefit from the HSR Diet way of life, where plants are the glamour food of the new eating plan. Get your head in the game by first by checking your BMI on the NIH scale, then learning your lessons in HSRD.

Olympic Cranberry Art
In Vancouver everyone is celebrating the winter Olympic games. Even the cranberry farmers. One of the farms that harvests the delicious red fruits decided to do a little something to celebrate the games. What happened was the a huge cranberry drawing of the Olympic rings.
Cranberries are great for women considering their UTI fighting power, but don’t forget about those anti-oxidants inside either!
Next time you’re craving something sweet put down the cookies and pick up some cranberries instead, just like cross-country skier Madeleine Williams.
Read the whole story on the CTV Olympics site.
Eat Better, Live Longer
Americans can expect to live 75-80 years, but the end doesn’t always look so wonderful. We have a knack for slowing down and falling apart slowly but surely.
However, another country enjoys 79-80 year lifespans with little to no disabilities near the end. Which country? Japan, and a large part of it has to do with diet.
After all, the Japanese eat around 25% fewer calories during any given day and they eat the foods we love here at the High School Reunion Diet. Fish, veggies and fruits are found in abundance during every meal. Especially fish!
With that sort of portion control and food spread, it’s no wonder the Japanese live long, wonderful lives.
On WebMD you can find more information on the Japanese Diet and how it promotes good health and a slimmer figure. Add in your new knowledge from the High School Reunion Diet and you’ll slim down and shape up faster than you ever imagined!
